Why GAMES ACADEMY?
GAMES ACADEMY is Europe’s first and most prominent specialist college for computer and video game development. Since 2000 we focused on the professional education of qualified employees, helping them to go on and find positions in the industry. Training projects created at the Academy have earned a great deal of recognition.
This qualitative advantage, along with our extensive industry contacts, has helped our graduates find employment in Europe’s most renowned games studios. Now the hardware and software industries have also come to recognize the Academy’s potential, and companies like Sony and Nintendo actively support our students. The Fraunhofer Society (IDG Rostock) supports research and teaching at GAMES ACADEMY: an exemplary cooperation for a specialist vocational college.
As a state-approved supplementary college, GAMES ACADEMY Berlin is proud to offer its students many educational advantages, including official student status and BAföG grants for Game Design, Game- and Film Art & Animation, Game Programming and Game Production.
Students experience regular lectures by international guests such as Ralph Baer (inventor of the first video games console), Jussi Holopainen (NOKIA), Kan Muftic (Rocksteady Studios ), Hanno Hagedorn (Naughty Dog), Georg Backer (Lionhead Studios), and Marc D`Souza (Intermezzo Games). Additionally, a unique model of active curriculum design gives students the opportunity to decide which lecturers should give additional lectures.
How learning works at GAMES ACADEMY
Successful learning is a complex process requiring careful planning. Most subjects are taught over an extended period of time. Acknowledged research has demonstrated the advantage of this system over that of short training units where a single subject is taught more intensively over several days or weeks.
We are family
Social learning is also a part of education. For many of our students, learning at GAMES ACADEMY constitutes the first step toward an independent life. Whether it’s help finding an apartment or personal advice in dealing with difficult life situations, the GAMES ACADEMY team, under the leadership of qualified social educator Thomas Dlugaiczyk, is always there for our students.
We are particularly keen on adapting the education we provide to the students’ future professional lives. Therefore, practicing typical industry working methods such as meetings, task preparation and team management is as much a part
of our curriculum as regular internal and external project presentations.
