Games Academy™ starts off a program for foundation support
Games Academy™ Berlin supports with the foundation of Games Academy™ LABS graduates who are willing to establish their own company by offering not only business premises but also subject-specific know-how.
The actual pilot project Twisted Bytes is already benefiting from Games Academy™ LABS. After its foundation in September, the software development studio is negotiating with various publishers. Twisted Bytes’ Blake White (German Game Developer Award 2008, 2nd Newcomer Award) is going to be produced in early 2010 for the XBOX live marketplace.
Alexander Lüpke, founding member of Twisted Bytes, had the idea for founding his own software studio already during his education. “Many students conceive the desire to found their own studio, but odds and ends such as rental bonds and software licensing complicate the realization. Now with Games Academy™ LABS we run the chance to solely focus on our work. Furthermore, working right next to the Academy is magnificent – if we got a work related issue brewing, we just go upstairs”. Lüpke stated.
Thomas Dlugaizyk, principal of Games Academy™, sees a high potential in this facility. “What we require are young professionals with enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit to venture a step towards the open-market. Our education forms a basis, but Games Academy™ LABS is one step ahead: put creative concepts into practice.”
Twisted Bytes was founded by Alexander Lüpke, Alfred Bigler and Timm Over and is now a registered member of Microsoft XBOX 360 and Nintendo DS developer focusing on indie, casual and retro games. The Twisted Bytes team is at the moment working on Blake White and Hard2Morrow, together with five freelancers from Games Academy™ and two sound and voice artists (Daniel Pharros, A New Beginning und Timo Peter, Call of Duty and DJ Hero).
